Memorial Day 2014

I had an emotionally and physically draining weekend, but Annabelle, Poppy, and Mommy had a great holiday yesterday.

After hanging out and doing housework in the morning, Annabelle and I headed to the trail for a run. I didn’t take her out in the jogging stroller during my marathon training (afraid I would hurt something by running different), so it’s nice to be doing it again. However, my knee is still giving me some pain so I ended up doing 8 miles of a run/walk. It is what it is and Annabelle and I enjoyed each other’s company for that hour and a half.

Once dinner rolled around, my dad fired up the grill and we had burgers, corn on the cob, baked beans, and pop chips. Yumm!

Dessert? Why of course I had dessert! I ate a s’mores bar topped with my cool whip/pudding mixture. It was perfect. 🙂

I went to bed counting my blessings and thanking those who have served to protect our country.

3 great ways to spend a weekend

I had a really fun weekend and I hope you did too! I spent the weekend doing 3 of my favorite things:

1. Running! (Duh)

2. Hanging at the pool!

It was AB’s first pool day! She didn’t seem to notice she was in the water and she was happy hanging out in it for a while.

Thanks for letting us use your pool Aunt Kirstyn.

3. Barbecuing!
Kirstyn prepped, Matt was in charge of the grilling, and AB and I supervised…and we brought dessert :-).

Cedar plank salmon…which was so tender and delicious.

Dessert…my own little creation that I call “Healthy” Chocolate Strawberry Shortcake. Recipe on the next post!

We ended the night by watching the movie Redemption. It was meh and you should probably just save your $7.99.

Annabelle’s First Beer

Last night, we went to a neighborhood BBQ. We have awesome neighbors, so it’s always fun when we get together.

The food was awesome…I had a turkey burger with guacamole, pasta salad, broccoli salad, and raw veggies. AB stuck to a liquid diet…

JK, AB decided beer wasn’t her thing and she went back to the good stuff.

We had a great time and were home by 9:30…party animals.

Happy 4th of July!

I was very patriotic on Wednesday…red white a blue shirt and an awesome USA headpiece.

I even wore the headpiece for a very sweaty 6.3 mile run. 🙂 The humidity was at 500% on Wednesday and you started sweating with the thought of going outside.

My 4th started with a 33 mile bike ride with Frank. This is an old picture but you get the idea.

The course was SUPER hilly and even Frank (who bikes all the time and is a triathlete), was done at the end. The last few miles felt like the last few miles of a marathon…I was so happy when it was over, but as always, so happy that I did it.

Next up was a BBQ with Chris’ work family. Annabelle got dressed in her red, white, and blue and we crossed our fingers that she wouldn’t require a wardrobe change before we got to the party.

Annabelle feeding update: she totally ate some bananas yesterday, but all she really wants to eat is her feet.

Chris’ boss has a great BBQ setup.

I ate a burger, watermelon, pasta salad, and raw veggies (my plate of one of each dessert is not pictured). Annabelle ate her hands.

It was a really fun day and Annabelle enjoyed her first 4th of July.

We caught up on Big Brother episodes when we got home and Molly hid in the closet during the fireworks…I live in the country and everybody seems to have fireworks at all times.

We have a neighborhood BBQ tonight, so I decided to make chocolate chip cookies at 10:30 pm last night…

I finally got to bed around midnight and AB decided that she wanted breakfast at 5 am…this is going to be a rough work day.

My friends Lauren and Amber (and Annabelle’s future boyfriend) enjoyed a pool day and a minor league baseball game. 🙂

A Run, A Brunch, and a BBQ

Yesterday was a great day for a run…sunny, breezy, and cool. I am happy to report that I didn’t feel any major pains and I am still feeling good today.

Good to know that everything but my chin was protected from the sun :-p.

I was thinking about this French toast for my entire run. We have decided that brunch at Juliana’s is a new Sunday tradition.

After suffering through another horrible O’s loss, we headed to Nick and Kim’s house for a smokin BBQ. We enjoyed a variety of smoked meat, pasta salads, fruit, and desserts. It was a great evening of friends and food :-).

Lazy Sunday Morning

Ahh, we went to sleep at 10 last night and slept until 8 with only one small interruption. It felt amazing.

I planned on going to yoga this morning, but AB fell asleep on me and I just couldn’t think of anywhere else I’d rather be.

You know she is in a deep sleep when she has her mouth open :-).

I plan to go for a run once she wakes up. I am really hoping everything will feel great and I will be good to go for next weekend’s race. After my run, I’m thinking pancakes must happen.

The fun continues this afternoon…BBQ at Nick and Kim’s house :-).
