Ocean City 2013: AB’s first beach trip!

Last week was awesome…fun in the sun, good food, naps, and spending time with my family. Here is a photo recap of our week!

Annabelle loved being on the beach and she took long naps all week :-). The water was a bit cold for her liking, but she tolerated it for a few minutes. We let her sit in the sand one day and it took about 2 seconds for her hands to go in the sand and then in her mouth.

Have you taken a summer vacation yet? Where did you go?

Best Birthday Ever.

Chris and Annabelle got me the best bday present ever…professional baby portraits. They turned out great and I can’t wait to finally decorate my office cubicle with lots of pictures. 🙂

Yesterday, I celebrated my 31st birthday. It was definitely my best birthday ever and it has a little something to do with this little girl.

We got up bright and early (after 4 hours of sleep) and headed to the beach! The traffic was pretty bad, so we made a stop for breakfast. I know this will surprise some of you, but we stopped at Cracker Barrel. 🙂 The highlight of breakfast…AB sat in a high hair for the first time!

Once we got settled in the condo we are renting, we headed to dinner. I enjoyed a margarita and a salad with chicken, black bean and corn salsa, tomato, avocado, cheese, and chipotle ranch dressing.

My awesome friends Matt and Kirstyn came down for the night and they hooked me up with this ice cream cake :-). I am so excited to have the leftovers tonight.

30 was a great year and I can’t wait to see what year 31 brings!

What is the best birthday present you have ever gotten?

Birthday cake, manicure, and a not so good run

Yesterday we celebrated July birthdays in my office. Happy birthday to me and Marissa!

I do not like this picture because I look like a guy, but Marissa looks cute.

Last night I got a manicure from my friend Dawn. She does nails out of her home and she is awesome :-).

Since its been pretty hot in the Baltimore area this week…

…we decided to run on the trail at 6 am. We enjoyed 7.5 miles in the 90 degree 100% humidity heat.

You know it’s hot when even your legs drip sweat.

I can deal with a tough to finish run, but I am really bummed that I have some major pain in the my right butt cheek/hamstring area. It is uncomfortable to walk :-(. I’m really hoping that it will feel fine after sleeping on it. Did I mention how bummed I am?

Moving on to happy things…tomorrow is my bday and we are headed to the beach for a week! I cannot wait.

What are your weekend plans?
Any other July bdays?

Booty shaking club music.

I’m having one of those days…feeling a little off and trying to sort out some things. One thing that always helps to get me through is working out…to booty shaking club music.

I woke up at the butt crack of dawn and went to yoga. Every morning I contemplate getting back into bed, but I always feel great driving to work after a great sweat session.

At lunch I took a spin class and it was full of booty shaking club music. Now, I don’t really like going to clubs, but when Flo Rida or 50 cent come on, I can’t help but smile and start grooving. Today’s play list even included some Will Smith “Get Jiggy With It”. Anybody else miss Will Smith as a rapper? 🙂

It was a great class with lots of jumps and intervals…and sweat in my eyeballs. PS I haven’t been running outside during lunch because it’s 150 degrees here.

Tonight I’m spending time with my mom and Annabelle…and watching Big Brother! Chris has pretended to not like the show the past few years, but he has been staying up and watching BB after dark.

How do you cheer yourself up if you are in a funk?
Any BB fans?

Random Fun Stuff

I ran 10 miles on Saturday morning and I had some pretty fast (for me) miles. We did “pick ups” and ran at a semi-comfortable pace for a mile and then picked it up as much as we could for a mile. On my pick up miles, I managed to run between 7:10 and 7:30.

My run was followed by a massage and haircut at the spa. Happy early birthday to me!

My mom watched Annabelle while I was gone. I’m so lucky to have her.

We went to our favorite place for brunch on Sunday. I got eggs, potatoes, bacon, and toast. I usually get fruit instead of bacon, but they didn’t have any this week.

I bought this awesome cooler bag to take on vacation next week. I LOVE bags of any kind.

Healthy eats!

Annabelle actually ate some bananas!

My mom took me shopping at Athleta for my birthday. I got a bathing suit, running skirt and shirt, and two pairs of socks. Have I mentioned how awesome my mom is? 🙂

Annabelle has a pretty large head…which means she has a big brain right? Her 6 month appointment went great and she is ready to ride in the jogging stroller. I am so excited!

Tell me something fun about your Tuesday!

Happy 6 Months Annabelle!

I can’t believe my baby is 6 months old!

She is definitely forming her own little personality and she does something new everyday.

Trying to sit up by herself. (Can’t do it yet though)

She loves her hands and feet!

She bounces away in her jumper!

She tries to escape from her bouncer!

We love this little girl so much!

A big mileage week and dinner with old (and wonderful) friends.

I ran 4 days in a row this week…Monday-Thursday.

Monday 6.75
Tuesday 5.6
Wednesday 6.75
Thursday 6.3

Saturday 12 (well, that’s the plan at least)

This will give me a total of 37.4 miles for the week. I have not run this much or this often since before I was pregnant and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I can continue to do this injury free.

Yup, that’s for all of you Twilight fans out there. I’m still sad that it’s all over.

Last night, Annabelle and I met two friends out for dinner. I met Heidi and Jess many years ago and we twirled baton together for years.

Old school picture taken at the national competition at Notre Dame…I’m thinking this was around 1997 or 1998?

Kellie and Jess then…

Kellie and Jess now :-). (Kellie wasn’t there last night, but here she is at her bridal shower a few weeks ago.)

Heidi then…

Heidi now…

We had a great time and AB enjoyed meeting them!

Do you still keep in contact with friends from your childhood?
What are your weekend plans?

Annabelle thinks 9 pm is party time.

Annabelle at 9 pm tonight…

I am more than ready for bed, so please send some sleepy baby happy thoughts my way. 🙂

The past two days have been pretty boring normal…

6.75 miles on Monday
5.6 miles on Tuesday

Both runs averaged around an 8:15 pace and considering we run at noon in extreme heat and humidity…I’ll take it!

Pretzel roll sandwich and broccoli salad =heaven.

6 am on Tuesday

I hadn’t been to yoga in almost a week and it felt awesome.

Her new trick…

Sharing daddy’s pillow…don’t worry this was just a fun picture and she wasn’t really sleeping there.

One of our children caused this mess…who do you think it was? Molly or Annabelle?

“Healthy” Chocolate Strawberry Shortcake!

Here is my recipe for a great summertime dessert! NOTE: I’m not even sure I can call it a recipe because it’s so easy to make. 🙂

1 container of light cool whip
Fat free pudding (4 snack containers)
Angel food cake
Strawberries (one container)

1. Slice strawberries into small pieces and set aside.

2. In a mixing bowl, combine the pudding and the cool whip. NOTE: make sure to leave a little bit of cool whip to top the dessert with.

3. Slice the angel food cake into small pieces.

4. Now that everything is ready, start layering!

– Angel food cake
– chocolate mixture
– strawberries

Repeat until you have 3 layers.

5. Top with remaining cool whip and strawberries.

6. Let chill in the fridge for at least an hour.

Trust me, you will love this dessert and you don’t have to feel too guilty when you eat the whole thing yourself. FYI…I’ve used funfetti cake in place of the angel food cake and that was amazing as well. 🙂

3 great ways to spend a weekend

I had a really fun weekend and I hope you did too! I spent the weekend doing 3 of my favorite things:

1. Running! (Duh)

2. Hanging at the pool!

It was AB’s first pool day! She didn’t seem to notice she was in the water and she was happy hanging out in it for a while.

Thanks for letting us use your pool Aunt Kirstyn.

3. Barbecuing!
Kirstyn prepped, Matt was in charge of the grilling, and AB and I supervised…and we brought dessert :-).

Cedar plank salmon…which was so tender and delicious.

Salmon, veggies, sweet potatoes, and corn (I cut it off of the cob)

Dessert…my own little creation that I call “Healthy” Chocolate Strawberry Shortcake. Recipe on the next post!

We ended the night by watching the movie Redemption. It was meh and you should probably just save your $7.99.

What was the best part if your weekend?
