“What’s that smell?”

Today’s workout was an intense, sweaty, kick butt class called “Kick It”. The instructor Sean is nuts, but he knows how to teach a good class. This class is a kick boxing class that involves a lot of punching, lunging, high knees, and a killer ab workout at the end. Since this class starts at 12:20 pm, I think about my lunch 100% of the time. 🙂

Today’s lunch was half of a leftover chicken breast with a tiny portion of Mac and cheese (Dora the Explorer :-)) and a zucchini soufflé.

This is made with zucchini and egg whites and I really liked it. The consistency was a little…umm, soft…but the flavor was really good. A few hours later I started smelling something unpleasant, like a BO smell. I kept smelling myself to check that it wasn’t me (and it wasn’t), so I figured somebody was heating something in the microwave. When I got up to use the bathroom, I noticed that the smell was only in my cube. My coworker Kelly verified that the stench was from my cube. Apparently the zucchini soufflé remnants do not smell good after a few hours. :-/

Fast forward through the afternoon and I left work to pick up Annabelle. Our friend Jocelyn (thanks Jocelyn!) watched AB for a little while and she was so worn out that she fell asleep sitting up!

After a trip to the playground we ate chicken salad sandwiches with broccoli salad and grapes on the side. If you have never had a pretzel roll, you are missing out.

Lots of running for me this weekend! I need to fit in a tempo run and a 20-miler. Who wants to join me? 🙂

What was your workout today?

Does your office have that person who always cooks something smelly? I guess I was that person today…but it used to be my friend Matt.

19 incredible months!

Yup, Annabelle is now 19 months old! How in the world did she get so old so fast?!?!?

We celebrated her 19 months of life with a trip to the playground. It was a gorgeous night with low humidity and a nice breeze. Our weather has been crazy this summer…it def doesn’t feel like August.

AB prefers to slide down on her stomach and she has no fear. She will go for any slide, no matter how steep.

Favorite Things:

Sesame Street! She loves to watch Sesame Street and her favorite toys and books are Sesame Street. I think we need to take a trip to Sesame Place. 🙂

The beach! She loves to run in the water and chase seagulls.

Running, climbing on the couch, making a mess, etc. She is always on the move and rarely sits still!

Favorite Foods:

Goldfish…all day everyday.

Fruit…blueberries, grapes, strawberries.

Veggies…cucumbers. She eats any veggie puréed, but doesn’t like them in regular form just yet. :-/

Chicken nuggets and Grilled cheese…when she is in the mood

Milk! She still LOVES her milk!

Poppy (what she calls my dad)
Mole (LOL, yes)

I look forward to what she will learn to say and do next! ❤

Moms, when did your little one really start talking?

Any tips to get kids to eat veggies?

Meal “planning” and a new favorite salad dressing.

Do you meal plan? I don’t really do much planning. I go to the grocery store and tend to buy enough food for a week and make whatever strikes my fancy each day. I usually stick with the same meals for a while and then move onto something new.

The most planning I do is packing breakfast, lunch, and snacks the night before work days. Depending on what I decide to bring, this task can take a long time…cutting fruit and veggies, making overnight oats or sandwiches, portioning out leftovers, etc. One of the many benefits of working from home a few days a week, is not having to make a days worth of meals the night before. It really does take a lot of stress off of my nightly routine.
Today’s eats!

Pancakes with bananas and blueberries (same exact breakfast as yesterday)

Chicken, veggies, and Mac and cheese leftovers (with a half of a sweet potato added in)

A big salad with spinach, grapes, strawberries, cucumbers, avocado, and a veggie burger. I also discovered this awesome new salad dressing…salsa ranch made with yogurt! It tastes amazing.

I also discovered these beauties. Try them ASAP.

Today’s workout!

Speed work…which I love and hate at the same time. Hate during and love afterwards 🙂

-1 mile warmup
-10 x 400m (1/4 mile) in 1:37 with 400m recovery in between sets

6 miles total

Do you meal plan?

How often do you go out to eat?

Speed work or long run? Which do you like better?

Pajamas…all day.

Yup, I stayed in my pjs all day today. Did I have a leisurely day of sitting on the couch and watching reality TV? Sadly, no. I was super productive and it feels good to get some much needed housework done.

The morning started with blueberry and banana pancakes followed by multiple loads of laundry, some clutter reorganization, and Annabelle’s first ponytail! She even waited a few minutes before she took it out. Girlfriend does not like anything in her hair. 😦

Lunch was a winner…spinach topped with strawberries, grapes, cucumbers, avocado, and a veggie burger (Dr. Praeger’s).

During Annabelle’s nap, I organized the laundry room and cleaned 2 out of our 3 bathrooms. Chris took a nap too, but he rallied and worked in the garden before AB woke up. 🙂

Dinner rolled around and I made marinated chicken, Mac and cheese, and roasted carrots/asparagus/onions. Annabelle worked on using a fork during dinner and actually used the fork to put some macaroni in her mouth. Unfortunately, she would take it right back out and didn’t eat much of it. Chris and I didn’t let it go to waste.

I finally showered and put on clean pjs after dinner and Annabelle worked on her reading and her photography skills. She took the picture of her plane and asked that I include it in my post. 🙂

Today was a “rest” day, so I am ready for a good ole sweaty speed workout tomorrow!

Do you ever spend the entire day in pjs (not including when you are sick)?

Favorite salad dressing?

What was your workout today???

Running + baseball = a good day.

Annabelle didn’t sleep well last night and then she woke up for the day at early o’clock. Even though today was a planned rest day, I couldn’t resist taking her for an early morning run on the NCR trail. It was a great morning for a run and I ended up with my fastest stroller run to date (I have a BOB!). 🙂

After a trip to Starbucks and the grocery store, we headed home to wake up Chris (he slept in big time). Next on the agenda, AB’s first trip to Camden Yards to see the Orioles play!

Annabelle is a very energetic and lively little thing (AKA Annabellion), so we didn’t know how she would handle sitting in the stands. I think we spent a few innings in our seats and that was plenty for her. Lady who sat in front of us, I’m sorry that Annabelle kicked you a few times. She didn’t mean it, I promise. 🙂

We ventured around and took some fun pictures…

…and then headed inside to a nice, air conditioned restaurant for lunch. I ordered a salad topped with berries and walnuts and rounded off my meal with sweet potato tots. They were the best $8 tator tots I’ve ever had.

After walking around for a bit, we called it a day. Annabelle was a good sport and I think she will enjoy going to the ballpark more when she older.

Chris and I are ending this Sunday in a great way…pizza, Big Brother, and ice cream!

PS I am only eating dessert on weekends now and I didn’t have any yesterday. So yes, I will consume a hefty amount tonight.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Baseball fan? Favorite team?

Sweet potato or regular potato?

Cheese or pepperoni pizza?

Snapshot Saturday :-)

I hope you all are having a great weekend so far! Here is how my weekend is going so far…food, running, and Annabelle. 🙂

Now, I’m drinking an iced latte and watching House Hunters…at 10:30 pm.

Falling asleep in her chicken nuggets.

Annabelle was pretty clingy and cranky when I got home from work today. I could tell that her nose was a little stuffy (and that whole teething thing is still going strong), but she seemed ok. She was in her high chair eating her dinner and the next thing I knew, she was snoozing. PS this was at 6:30 pm.

I let her sleep for a little while…I ate dinner and did the dishes. She woke up as I was getting her out of the chair and she was not happy about it. After a quick bath, she was asleep in her crib by 7:30. Poor baby, I hope she feels better tomorrow. 🙂

AB hasn’t gone to bed this early for a long time, so I wasn’t really sure what to do with this extra time. This is how I spent my evening:

– played with Molly outside (I took the baby monitor with me and we were just right out front)

– FOAM ROLLED! I have some major soreness in both butt cheeks and this was a very painful rolling session.

– Big Brother! Double eviction night was crazy!

– Watched the Orioles win!
Random food pictures (I know you have been waiting for these!)

Snack time! Vanilla Greek yogurt with fresh raspberries. So, so good. I don’t like raspberrie flavored things, but I like the actual fruit.

Dinner time! Spinach and cheese ravioli with carrots and asparagus on the side.

Oh yea…I ran today too. Shocker, I know :-). I did a 5 mile treadmill run with an average pace of 8:12. My left hamstring/butt is starting to make trouble, so hopefully the foam rolling will help.

Almost the weekend!

Have you ever fallen asleep at the dinner table?. Yes! I think it was at a Bennigans!

Favorite yogurt flavor and mix-in? Strawberry and granola!

Speed work…it hurts so good.

Day 2 of no dessert is almost over! I am currently having this as dessert and it’s pretty tasty.

Dinner was another simple meal (that’s all I can handle with a 1 1/2 year old running around) of chicken and roasted veggies. I really love roasting asparagus…it just makes it tastes really good.

After dinner we spent some time outside with Molly and then I spent some quality time with my foam roller and Dance Moms once AB went to bed.
Speed work…it’s so TOUGH but it feels so great once it’s finished. Since I’m taking another shot at a BQ in September (remember that time I missed it by 7 seconds…yea…), I’m back into marathon training mode and I have a lot of work to do.

Today’s workout:

1 mile warmup at a 9:13 pace

3 miles at a 6:51 pace with a 400m rest interval in between

.5 mile cool down at a 9:13 pace

It was a quick workout and I was able to make it back to my training class with time to spare. 🙂 PS my legs are feeling this workout right now and my new BFF is my foam roller.

Do you like asparagus?

What are you training for right now?

Do you own a foam roller or a stick? Do you use it everyday?

Healthy eats and no dessert (well, sometimes).

It’s no secret that I love ice cream, cookies, brownies, etc., and I pretty much eat it everyday. While I workout a ton and eat pretty healthy otherwise, this is not a good habit to maintain. Therefore, I’m trying to cut back on dessert and eat healthy foods instead. I made it 3 days last week and then the weekend happened. Oops.

Thanks for the motivation Janae. You are doing great and it motivates me to attempt this very hard task. Kate, we can do this!

So, it seems that I eat healthier overall when I cut out dessert…who knew!

What’s for breakfast?

Overnight oats made with almond milk and cinnamon. Top with berries and enjoy. 🙂

Cheerios with almond milk and berries.

Note: I get to work at the butt crack of dawn and always start the morning with coffee.

What’s for lunch? Well, usually leftovers from dinner so let’s skip over lunch!

What’s for dinner? (fun fact: we also refer to dinner as “evening lunches”…don’t ask me why because I have no idea).

Veggie burgers topped with guacamole/avocado and tomatoes with veggies on the side.

Garlic pepper marinated chicken with veggies. This meal makes amazing leftovers.

What’s for “dessert”?

Fruit, nuts, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. Tonight I tried the grapes and cottage cheese combo and I was pleasantly surprised.

Let’s see how long I keep this no dessert thing going. One day down!

How often do you eat dessert?

What’s your favorite healthy go-to meal?

Do you prefer a hot or cold lunch?

That time I ran my first 50k!

On July 20, 2014 I turned 32 years old. What’s the best way to celebrate a birthday? Running a 50k trail race and becoming an ultra runner. 🙂

Jeanette (my partner in crime) and I decided that since we were already trained for the marathon distance, we might as well go to the next step and try a 50k. FYI: trail running is so beautiful but very different from road running. Our pace is significantly slower on the trails and our goal for this race was simply to finish.
My alarm went off at 3:20 am and it was a little rough getting out of my nice warm bed when the rest of the world was sound asleep. I hit up the local gas station for some much needed caffeine and drove to Jeanette’s house. We then drove an hour to Upper Marlboro, MD to run the Rosaryville 50k. It was a beautiful morning…way cooler than our usual late July temperatures.

The before picture. Frank and Meg joined in on the fun and rocked the 10 miler.

The 50k was three 10 mile loops and the course was great. It was fun to run in a new place and challenge my body in a way it had never been challenged before.

The Ups and the Downs:

1. The scenery was beautiful.

2. The first 10 miles felt SO LONG and I got really scared that I wouldn’t be able to finish.

3. Animal crackers are my new favorite “fuel”. Stauffer’s brand all the way.

4. The volunteers were awesome and the aid stations were stocked with supplies and food. They were so nice and refilled our water bottles at each stop.

5. Jeanette is an awesome running partner and she keeps me going when I want to stop.

6. Jeanette had an entire aid station sing me happy birthday as I ran in. I really needed a pick me up and it made my day. 🙂

7. I fell 3 times… Fall #1: not too bad, just some dirt. Fall #2: bad, so bad, blood, bruises, confidence crushed. Fall #3: rubbed more dirt in my wounds and my right knee was screaming.

8. At around mile 25 I took a cup of what I thought was Gatorade and chugged it. It tasted so wonderful and sugary…because it was Mountain Dew. I loved it.

9. Once Jeanette saw that we could make it under 6 hours, she made it our mission.

10. We finished in 5:55:06 and it felt amazing to be done.

Will we do another one? We might just have one planned for November. 🙂

The medal!

Happy, pretty dry, and still clean after loop 1. 🙂

Before and after pictures.

Dirty, bloody, bruised, and patched up with Sesame Street Bandaids. 🙂

I spent the rest of my bday heading on vacation, eating McDonalds fries, and enjoying a huge Dairy Queen blizzard. 🙂

50k, we will see you again soon!
