Chipotle Night!

Today was a normal Wednesday in the life of a working mama. I got up at 6:00 (after snoozing a few too many times), showered, and headed to my happy place before heading to work. My happy place = Starbucks. I tried the new Tiramasu Latte with nonfat milk and whipped cream. It was good, but I will probably stick to my normal choices.

After my lovely 1 1/2 hour commute, I checked my email and dug into my overnight oats. I haven’t made this in a long time and it was well overdue.

I worked for a few more hours, answered a dozen of phone calls, and got hung up on once. It was nice little morning. Around noon, Jeanette and I headed outside for a glorious 6.83 mile run. While we had to dodge some snow and ice covered roads and sidewalks, the sun was shining and the temps were balmy (30 degrees!).

Lunch was leftovers from last night’s dinner. I think it actually tasted better today than it did last night. Spoiler alert: This will be my lunch tomorrow too. I also had a Yoplait Greek Whipped Yogurt and it was a nice change from the traditional kind.

While I was slaving away at work, my mom sent me this beauty. How rude! πŸ™‚

My afternoon snack was a banana with a side of almond butter on plates leftover from my baby shower over 2 years ago. I should really quit my day job to be a food photographer.

Dinner was you guessed, Chipotle! Ever since Chris has been off work on Wednesday nights, I’ve been picking up Chipotle for dinner. I’m always excited to eat it, but man does it feel like a rock in my stomach now.

We usually end Chipotle night with fro yo, but it’s going on 9 pm now and they close in a few minutes. Looks like I will have to settle for something from my stash while Chris and I watch some Law and Order: SUV (you Sopranos fans out there will know why we call it SUV instead of SVU). What to choose?? Red velvet oreos, white fudge oreos, Reese’s Hearts, peanut M&Ms, Hershey’s Hugs. I do have ice cream in the fridge, but that is the last thing I ate before I got sick on Saturday night and I may never eat that ice cream again.

What time did you wake up this morning?

What kind of job do you have? Customer Service, cube life, service industry?

Almond butter or peanut butter?

Sweatshirts and running.

Well, we made it through Monday and tomorrow is a federal holiday. Yay for being a federal employee! A BIG thank you to all of our past and present members of the military.

We had a pretty good weekend over here. When I got home from work on Thursday, I had FOUR great surprises waiting for me.

1. A very nice note from Chris.
2. My favorite Starbucks drink in the fridge.
3. A Reebok yoga sweatshirt.

4. A Nike sweatshirt.

He’s kinda the best. πŸ™‚ PS I have failed to take a picture of the sweatshirts even though I have lived in the Nike one for the last 4 days.

Annabelle got new boots and a new coat this weekend. She didn’t want to take it off.

I decided to randomly make these on Friday afternoon and it was one of my better decisions.

Sunday morning was spent running a 10k over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and it was awesome! I’ll have a full recap up soon.

Sunday afternoon was spent running another 8 miles with the jogging stroller. Why would I so such a thing? Because I thought it was a great idea to sign up for a marathon happening at the end of this month. More on that later. πŸ™‚

Do you have an obsession with sweats? Yes!

Chocolate chip cookie or brownie? Tough decision…

Running + baseball = a good day.

Annabelle didn’t sleep well last night and then she woke up for the day at early o’clock. Even though today was a planned rest day, I couldn’t resist taking her for an early morning run on the NCR trail. It was a great morning for a run and I ended up with my fastest stroller run to date (I have a BOB!). πŸ™‚

After a trip to Starbucks and the grocery store, we headed home to wake up Chris (he slept in big time). Next on the agenda, AB’s first trip to Camden Yards to see the Orioles play!

Annabelle is a very energetic and lively little thing (AKA Annabellion), so we didn’t know how she would handle sitting in the stands. I think we spent a few innings in our seats and that was plenty for her. Lady who sat in front of us, I’m sorry that Annabelle kicked you a few times. She didn’t mean it, I promise. πŸ™‚

We ventured around and took some fun pictures…

…and then headed inside to a nice, air conditioned restaurant for lunch. I ordered a salad topped with berries and walnuts and rounded off my meal with sweet potato tots. They were the best $8 tator tots I’ve ever had.

After walking around for a bit, we called it a day. Annabelle was a good sport and I think she will enjoy going to the ballpark more when she older.

Chris and I are ending this Sunday in a great way…pizza, Big Brother, and ice cream!

PS I am only eating dessert on weekends now and I didn’t have any yesterday. So yes, I will consume a hefty amount tonight.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Baseball fan? Favorite team?

Sweet potato or regular potato?

Cheese or pepperoni pizza?

Fun Things Friday!

1. One of my BFFs (she was my college roommate, Go Tigers!) had her first baby last weekend and I am meeting him this afternoon!

2. We are having dinner (pizza night!) at another one of my BFFs (friends since 6th grade) house tonight. I haven’t seen her and her beautiful family for way too long, so it will be nice to catch up.

(Throwback to January 2013)

3. My awesome coworker made my day today. A Grande soy chai was just what I needed this morning.

4. I made the best dessert this week. Please go buy these Oreos before they stop selling them. πŸ™‚

5. Annabelle learned how to say “Poppy” this week. It’s so darn cute.

Tell me something fun about your Friday!

What do you normally get from Starbucks?

Fun Things Friday!

1. I started the day with my new favorite Starbucks drink. A grande soy vanilla macchiato. πŸ™‚

2. I channeled my inner Britney Spears and ran 7.25 miles on the treadmill. To fight boredom, I warmed up for 3 miles and then began 1 minute pick-ups with 2 minutes in between each one. My pick-up pace was a 7:03 pace and my time in between was an 8:00 pace.

3. I slept in a little and got into work late today. Since I didn’t get to work until after 10, I took a late lunch (#runch) and my friends Kelly and Marissa were nice enough to get my lunch from the cafe (it would have closed before I got there). πŸ™‚

4. I had an amazing afternoon snack today. Dannon Banana Cream Greek yogurt with fudge brownie goldfish and white chocolate chips.

5. It’s date night! Annabelle is sleeping over at Grandses and Poppies house so I can check my long run (18 miles) off the list tomorrow morning.

Random early morning selfie from this week. Wow, look at that receding hairline! :-/

Tell me something fun about your Friday!

Snow Day: Food Edition!

Since it snowed all day yesterday, work was cancelled and we hung inside all day long. I did make it to Starbucks before it got too bad out. There was no time to change out of my pjs.

Breakfast: a sweet roll and a grande skinny vanilla soy latte

Lunch: turkey, cheese, and mixed greens sandwich with apples and rice crackers and guacamole

Snack: strawberry Chobani with a chocolate Bevita biscuit crushed up into it. Annabelle ate half of it.

Dinner: apple chicken sausage, whole wheat pearl cous cous, roasted sweet potatoes, onions, and broccoli. Loved this meal!

Dessert: chocolate chip banana bread and a ciao Bella gelato square. πŸ™‚

I wish we were having another snow day, but I’ll be heading to work soon.

Have a great Wednesday!

How often do you cook dinner at home?

Lessons Learned

Yesterday was one of those days. Even though it wasn’t the best day, I walked away with some lessons learned.

1. If it’s raining, I might as well get some Starbucks for the ride to work. My ride was 2 hours and 15 minutes yesterday.

2. Everybody is human and we all make mistakes. I was pretty hard on myself yesterday and today I’m trying to give myself a break.

3. Sometimes a beautiful sky can make the day a little better.

4. Baby gates make life so much easier. Thanks for the installation Dad!

5. A home cooked meal is always a good idea.

6. “Healthy” dessert was pretty satisfying. This was a weight watcher’s brownie topped with chocolate arctic zero, chocolate sauce, and light whipped cream. FYI Arctic Zero is similar to ice cream but a whole pint only has 150 calories!

7. Running in the cold and wind helps me run faster. The sooner it’s done, the sooner I’ll be warm. πŸ™‚

No running outside today…

Have you learned any lessons recently? Serious or light hearted? πŸ™‚

A great start to the new year.

Last night, I celebrated New Year’s Eve with Annabelle and my parents (Chris was working…). We did what we do best…eat! We decided on BBQ for dinner, so we ate at Famous Dave’s.

I got the burnt tips entree with mashed potatoes, broccoli, and a corn muffin.

My dad ordered dessert so my mom and I had to help him eat it. πŸ™‚

Aren’t they cute?

The night ended with pjs and Christmas peanut m&ms. I was very happy when it hit midnight because I was so ready for bed.

This morning I slept in until 8:30 (thanks Mom)!!! I played with Annabelle and ate a quick breakfast of toast, crunchy peanut butter, and banana before I headed to a New Year’s 10k race. The race started at 11 am and there were about 145 runners.

It was an out and back course which was awesome for the first 3 miles because it was all down hill. The final 3 miles…all uphill. It was definitely challenging and I was struggling to keep pace, but I ended in 48:03 and managed to maintain a sub-8 pace. πŸ™‚

Me and Jeanette. She rocked as well and finished right on my heels.

The best way to refuel after a race…doughnut and Starbucks!

The rest of our New Year included an early dinner at Outback…

Ice cream from Cold Stone…

And a Dance Moms marathon.

I hope you had a wonderful first day of 2014!

How did you celebrate New Years?

Do you watch Dance Moms?

When was the last time you ate ice cream?

A very Christmas Eve Eve.

After a weekend full of eating, I was more than ready for a run yesterday. I hit the treadmill at lunch and ran 8 miles in 63 minutes…slowest mile was 9 minutes and fastest mile was 6:58. πŸ™‚

This is Gina…she is super sweet and running so fast that she is just a blur.

After our run, we finished our workout with some good old fashioned planking.
My evening was spent with Annabelle and my parents and we did all sorts of Christmasy stuff!

1. AB opened up her first Christmas present. Thanks for the pjs Miss Marissa and Sean!

2. We got Starbucks and rode around to see Christmas lights.

This house is awesome! They have their own radio station and the lights change to the music. πŸ™‚

3. We baked destroyed a batch of cookies…

I tried to make these…

(From Heather)

…and they did not turn out very well. This is where the first batch ended up.

I kept the second batch (because I couldn’t make myself throw them away) but I’m not sure what I will do with them. They aren’t terrible but they are really dry. 😦 I def blame human error on this one.

Anybody want some freshly baked cookies???

The night ended with me frantically wrapping a few presents and getting to bed at 1 am. Staying awake at work today should be a challenge…

It’s Christmas Eve!!!! I’m so excited for Annabelle’s first Christmas!!

Anybody else ruin some cookies this year?

What does your family do tonight?

What is the best thing you will eat tomorrow???

Give Back and a Giveaway!

It is better to give than to receive.Β  Now that the holiday season is in full swing, it’s the perfect time to really give thanks for the blessings in our lives and to help those that are in need.Β  It doesn’t matter how you choose to give back (monetary donations, food bank donations, volunteering, visiting a hospital or nursing home, helping a local family in need), but try to do something to brighten somebody else’s day this holiday season.Β  πŸ™‚

Below are two organizations near and dear to my heart and I donate whenever I am able.

Baltimore Humane SocietyΒ  The Baltimore Humane Society is a no-kill shelter that provides a temporary home, a safe refuge, and care for unwanted and homeless animals.Β  They also work aggressively to place each animal that comes to the shelter in a loving, permanent home.Β  The shelter does not receive any operational funding, so they rely entirely on donations!

Local peeps, check this out!Β  Fill a Subaru with Love!Β Β  Stop by the Subaru of Hunt Valley and donate some items to help keep this no-kill shelter up and running.Β  Stop in on December 14th and you can meet some of the adoptable pets. πŸ™‚

St. Jude Children’s Research HospitalΒ

The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay.

St. Jude Children’s Hospital has always been important to me, but now that I have a daughter of my own, it has really hit home.Β  Tearing up as I write this…Β  If you sign up as a “Partner in Hope”, by making monthly donations, they will send you this ornament as a thank you and a reminder of all the children you will be helping.

In the spirit of giving, I have a GIVEAWAY for you all!Β  Here’s your chance to win a $15 gift card to Starbucks!Β

To Enter:Β  Leave a comment on this post of how you plan to give back this holiday season.Β  I will randomly pick a winner on Monday morning.Β  Good luck!
