2015 so far: the ups and downs in food and exercise.

Happy New Year! Bring back Christmas…I like it so much better than New Years. I’m like that guy in The Breakup who still answers the phone, “Happy Holidays!” even though Christmas was long gone.

So, I’ve been enjoying the healthy train since we got back from Florida and I didn’t even indulge on New Years Eve. (read: Chris got me dinner and Annabelle and I partied hard watching Sesame Street).

The Ups!

A 10 mile run and new running clothes! The shirt is Under Armor and the pants are Oiselle. 🙂 And the finger is Chris’…

Cross training courtesy of Julie. These workouts are so great and can be done pretty much anywhere. 🙂

Healthy Eats

I had a lot of Subway for a few days and then I ate veggie burgers, sandwiches, fruit, and veggies at home. Tonight’s dinner = turkey and cheese panini on whole wheat bread with an apple.

Speed work!

Since it was 20 degrees and WINDY today, I hit the treadmill for a run.

20 minute warmup

10 x 1 minute fast (6:58 pace) followed by 1 minute recovery (8:20 pace)

10 minute cool down

6 miles total and guess what???? It felt good!!! Finally!

The Downs…

I’ve been pretty good with workouts and worked out everyday except for yesterday. Guess what I do instead of working out? I EAT! After dinner, I consumed:

– 2 donuts (one chocolate cake and one glazed)

– 2 Twix Santas (they were $ .49 and I couldn’t resist)

– 1 Milky Way Snowman (see Twix)

– 1 bowl of ice cream with chocolate syrup

Sad but true :-(. Needless to say, I woke up feeling pretty gross this morning. But I rallied with a healthy oatmeal breakfast and went to the gym at lunch and I feel much better.

I just started using My Fitness Pal again and since I had lots of extra calories today, I did just eat dessert. The struggle is real. If you want to friend me and see how much dessert I really eat, my name is LMelz. 🙂

So tell me…

How is your new year going?

Best thing that happened today?

I almost forgot…

Annabelle loves to turn the phone around, hold it out, and say “selfie!”. We took about 10 today. 🙂

Merry Belated Christmas!

I know I’m super late to the party, but I wanted to share some of our Christmas fun with you all. I LOVE Christmas and I get very sad when it’s over. I may just leave up our tree forever. 🙂

Speaking of our tree…here it is.

Festival of Lights in Ocean City, MD

A visit with Aunt Lauren and Uncle Rob in NC…Lauren is super pregnant in this picture but you can’t tell. 🙂

A “happy” visit with Santa 🙂

Christmas in Florida with Grandses and Poppy!

Christmas at home 🙂

A super big thank you to my new blog friend Amanda! We participated in a card exchange and she sent me a lovely card with a great treat inside. Thanks Amanda!

PS what’s better than Christmas Eve pajamas? (Thanks mom!) Christmas Eve pajamas that match your daughters! 🙂

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Christmas Traditions! Day 1, 2, and 3.

It’s no secret, I LOVE Christmas. Since Annabelle is almost 2 now, I decided that we should do a fun Christmas activity each day. 🙂

Day 1: Begin the advent calendar. AB needs to work on her sharing…she likes to eat the whole piece of chocolate herself. 😉

Day 2: Decorate the tree. Annabelle was tuckered out and went to bed before we finished, but I had enough fun for both of us.

Dessert to give me energy for tree decorating…

Tree is finished!

11 pm, pajamas, Hallmark movies, and Monica’s 25 days of workouts.

She discovered the ornaments this morning. 🙂

Day 3: A new Elmo Christmas book! Annabelle loves books and Elmo, so it was a big hit. I already have it memorized because we read it about 10 times.

I am looking forward to all of the holiday fun ahead! It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

White lights or colored?. White!

Favorite Christmas movie? So many good ones…Elf, Home Alone 1 and 2, The Santa Clause, Love Actually.

Beating the holiday blues…and the holiday bulge.

I hope everyone had a great holiday with lots of family time and food! I LOVE the holiday season, so I always get bummed once Christmas is over.

How do I fight the “Christmas is over” blues? Don’t let go!

-I’m still listening to Christmas music and enjoying my decorations.

-I’m still hosting holiday gatherings. (More on this fun time later).

-I’m still eating leftovers from Christmas Eve…I guess I should let those go soon right? This was a bagel sandwich made with ham from Honeybaked Ham.

How do I fight the “holiday bulge”? Workouts!

-Insanity! On Thursday I needed a quick but effective workout. The solution was a Cardio Max workout from the Insanity DVDs.

-Running! Duh, right? I did 7.5 miles on Friday and 10.5 today. Today’s run was very chilly, but I got to try out my new running clothes from Athleta and my new North Face running gloves.

Anybody else get bummed when the most wonderful time of the year is over?

What was your workout today?

A very Merry First Christmas!

We had an absolutely perfect day. I feel very blessed to have such a wonderful family. Ending the night watching Home Alone with Chris and my parents. Annabelle went to sleep early…she had a very busy day playing with her new toys. 🙂

Enjoy the rest of your Christmas!!

The best time of the year!

Another few pictures of Annabelle for good measure 🙂

She is getting so big!

How was your weekend??
What kind of workouts did you do?

A Rock Hall weekend and Annabelle’s First Christmas

My mom, AB, and I had a great weekend with family in Rock Hall. 🙂

The food!. My Aunt is a great cook and she always makes delicious and healthy meals!

– Crab cake, vegetable au gratin, and roasted potatoes…a ginger beer to wash it all down.

– Salad with lettuce, avocado, blueberries, tomatoes, peaches, and sunflower seeds. The dressing is very simple…lime juice, olive oil, and Dijon mustard.

– Breakfast smoothie: blueberries, raspberries, banana, almond butter, sunflower milk, chocolate protein powder, and NingXia Red

The scenery!
We took a walk down to the water on Saturday night. Such a pleasant evening and an awesome view. Annabelle falls asleep within minutes of being in the jogging stroller :-).

Annabelle’s First Christmas!. Ok, so not officially her first Christmas, but we celebrated Christmas (we just didn’t have time around the holidays) with my aunt and uncle yesterday and there were presents and wrapping paper. Annabelle got this very cute, handmade dress from the farmer’s market. What did she love the most? Wrapping paper of course!

I received some awesome gifts including this book of recipes for athletes

And these fair trade bracelets made out of plastic bags!

My run! I went for an “easy” run on Sunday and ended up doing 6.5 miles with an overall pace of 7:42. BTW, that is not easy for me but at least the course was flat!

Fun pictures from the weekend!

My Aunt and Mom…can you tell they are related? 🙂

Happy Monday!

What was the best part of your weekend?

Getting to know me: We are having a baby! – Part 1

We found out that we were pregnant last May right before Memorial Day.  Chris was at work when I found out, so it was a very long few hours waiting for him to get home.  This was certaintly not news to share over the phone :).  It was an amazing day and we were thrilled beyond belief.

At 8 weeks I went for the first sonogram.  Since I couldn’t see her (no baby bump) or feel her at this point, it was such a relief to see that she was there and to see her little heartbeat on the screen.

At my 12 week appointment, we heard the heartbeat for the first time.  I could not help but tear up when I heard how strong and fast it was and I was so amazed that I was growing a baby inside of me!

This picture was at 13 weeks and was taken on our family beach vacation.  At that time I thought that I was REALLY showing and I couldn’t stand when people said, “you don’t even look pregnant.”  Looking back on it, they were right!  Chris is laying on the bed in the background and I’m sure he was annoyed at how long I was taking to get ready to go out for dinner ;-).

17 1/2 weeks.  This was the first of several pictures I took in the bathroom at work.  People joked about taking pictures in the mirror, but I thought everybody did this?  Am I wrong???  I was wearing spandex on this day and decided that there was no need to wear any other type of pants…ever again.

21 weeks.  I have to point out that the I am wearing the spandex again…and in the bathroom again.

23 weeks.  Ok, so this is another bathroom picture but at least it as at home.  Oh look at that, the spandex again!  I really did not wear them everyday but I guess they became my picture taking pants.  I took this as we were leaving for a beach weekend to celebrate Chris’ 30th birthday.

Here is a picture from that weekend.  We watched the Oriole’s who were on their way to the playoffs!  I apologize for even posting this…it is really a terrible picture.

iPhone Pictures 072

34 weeks.  Even though it looks like the famous spandex again, I was actually being stylish and wearing my Heidi Klum maternity skinny jeans.  Chris and I were headed to our holiday dinner with our friends Matt and Kirstyn.  I wish I had a picture of what they wore to dinner…Kirstyn was in an ugly Christmas vest that she decorated herself and Matt was in one of his mom’s tunic length ugly Christmas sweaters.

35 week.  This picture was taken on Christmas Eve.  We had family dinner at our house and I completely forgot to get a picture of me and Chris together.  Therefore, I had Chris take my picture in front of our tiny tree.

37 weeks (4 days before delivery).  I actually had my coworker Kelly take this picture.  I admit that I did take the bathroom shot before asking her to take this one.  This dress is not a maternity dress but I thought it worked perfectly…over spandex.  I absolutely did not think I would give birth within a few days of this!

Stay tuned for Part 2, the birth story!
