Marathon Training Monday V: #MTM

Yes, it’s Tuesday. I started this yesterday and had the best intentions to post it yesterday. I failed.
Happy Monday!  I can’t believe how fast April is going…race day is now less than a month away!

Here is last week’s training recap:

9.2 miles on the boardwalk in Ocean City, MD.

Strength Training = power tone class (similar to body pump but not as structured)

Track Workout: 3 x 1600m at a 6:51 pace

Our times:

1600m in 6:46
1600m in 6:46
1600m in 6:39

With the jog to and from the track, we finished with about 4.5 miles.

Strength training and cardio – I went to lunch with coworkers, so I squeezed in a quick workout after work.

15 minutes on the bike

3 rounds of the following:

15 squat jumps
15 push-ups
10 back kicks on each leg
10 tricep push-ups on each arm
15 tricep dips
30 sit-ups or bicycles
10 push up planks on each side

This was a great workout and I will try to show a demonstration of some of the moves that aren’t that familiar soon. 🙂

7 easy miles total. Some outside with friends and a few on the treadmill.

A 10k race with friends! I finished in 45:39 with an average pace of 7:22. Serge and Lisa did great too! Lisa placed first in her age group!

Rest day and eat lots of food day!

I hope your week is off to a good start!

A great start to the new year.

Last night, I celebrated New Year’s Eve with Annabelle and my parents (Chris was working…). We did what we do best…eat! We decided on BBQ for dinner, so we ate at Famous Dave’s.

I got the burnt tips entree with mashed potatoes, broccoli, and a corn muffin.

My dad ordered dessert so my mom and I had to help him eat it. 🙂

Aren’t they cute?

The night ended with pjs and Christmas peanut m&ms. I was very happy when it hit midnight because I was so ready for bed.

This morning I slept in until 8:30 (thanks Mom)!!! I played with Annabelle and ate a quick breakfast of toast, crunchy peanut butter, and banana before I headed to a New Year’s 10k race. The race started at 11 am and there were about 145 runners.

It was an out and back course which was awesome for the first 3 miles because it was all down hill. The final 3 miles…all uphill. It was definitely challenging and I was struggling to keep pace, but I ended in 48:03 and managed to maintain a sub-8 pace. 🙂

Me and Jeanette. She rocked as well and finished right on my heels.

The best way to refuel after a race…doughnut and Starbucks!

The rest of our New Year included an early dinner at Outback…

Ice cream from Cold Stone…

And a Dance Moms marathon.

I hope you had a wonderful first day of 2014!

How did you celebrate New Years?

Do you watch Dance Moms?

When was the last time you ate ice cream?

Day 3: Two Races, One Morning

We got up bright and early on Saturday morning and boarded the shuttle at 6:15 am.  We headed over to the start line and hung out inside until it was time to brave the cold.

My roomie Toni, Katy, Heather, and Theodora

The first race, the 5k, started right at 8 am.  The energy was awesome and everything (packet pick-up, bag check, starting area) was very well organized.  I really wanted to PR, so I took off as fast as I could and I just tried to hold on as long as possible.  I struggled through it and ended up with a 5k PR of 21:24.  That’s a 6:53 pace!

We hung out indoors between races and you can check out our compression socks and our goose bumps below.

The 10k was next with a start time of 9:30.  Since I trashed my legs during the 5k, I didn’t have real high expectations for this race.  I started running with Sarah and Heather and we took it easy for the first mile or so.  Sarah eventually pulled ahead and Heather and I stuck together for the entire way.  She was an awesome pace buddy and I’m glad she was there to keep me going.

10k time 47:33 with an average pace of 7:39.

With two races finished, there was only one more to go.  The final race of the Hat Trick was the half marathon on Sunday.  I’ll talk about our fun Saturday night festivities and the last race soon.  🙂

Did you race this past weekend?

Have you ever done back to back races?

Baltimore peeps, Charm City Run is hosting a Run for Boston on Monday, April 22nd at 6:30.  Check the website for locations.

Last Sunday, I ran a 10k and finished in about 52 minutes.  It was a very pretty day and a fun run.

After the run, Frank and I hit the bikes for a 15 mile ride.  This was my first time on a bike in a long time and it took me a little while to get comfortable.  Those skinny tires on road bikes make me so nervous!

Sunday was also my mom’s birthday.  Happy Birthday Mom!

After Sunday’s activities, Monday was a much needed yoga day.

Tuesday was a gym day…30 minutes elliptical, 3000 meter row, 10 minutes on stair climber.

Wednesday, YOGA!

Thursday was another gym day…40 minutes elliptical, 2000 meter row, abs

Friday was a great workout!  25 mile bike and 6 mile run 🙂  Frank is training for an Olympic distance triathlon so I tagged along.

I ate fro yo 3 times this week…it’s getting out of hand.

Here are some pictures of Annabelle…just because 🙂

Tomorrow is an exciting day…one of my dearest running friends is getting married!  I can’t wait to help her celebrate her big day :).

What do you think?

Did you try a new workout this week?

Fro yo or ice cream?

Wine Tasting and Race Prep…great combination!

I woke up this morning prepared to hit the gym for some cross-training, but me and my legs were feeling pretty tired.  So instead of going to the gym, my mom, AB, and I enjoyed some time at Starbucks.  I’m hoping this rest day will help me move a little quicker during tomorrow’s 10k.  🙂

In the afternoon, I went to a wine tasting with a group of girlfriends at Woodhall Winery.

018 017

Since I was the designated driver I only sampled two of the sweeter wines, but the other ladies had a great time sampling all of the wines offered.  It was a fun afternoon spent with great company!  Thanks Jen!

The 10k race starts tomorrow morning at 8:15 and since I have to get myself up and ready and make sure AB is happy and get her in the car and to my mom’s house and the race is about an hour from my house, I got everything ready tonight.  I am exhausted already…

Shoes, socks, long sleeve shirt, tank top, sports bra, running skirt, suntan lotion, and breakfast…and the Garmin is charging.  No I will not be wearing a helmet while running…Frank and I are going on a 25 mile bike ride after the race :).

Now that Annabelle is 3 months old, she has started to love looking at the TV.  If we tried to turn her away from the O’s game tonight, she was not a happy baby.  She also enjoys watching Wipeout…but who doesn’t?

I hope everyone enjoys the rest of the weekend!

What do you think?

Do you like wine?  Red or white?

Do you get everything ready the night before a race?

Fun Things Friday! OK, it is technically Saturday…

1.  I enjoyed an awesome 7 miles on the trail yesterday morning…everyone I passed said hello and I met a very nice man training for the San Diego half marathon.

2.  Yesterday I had lunch with Nakiya and her adorable baby boy.   Annabelle and Adam’s first date.   🙂

3.  I went to yoga 4 times this week and it felt great.

4. I went to lunch with a friend from work today. Miss you Marissa!  I surprisingly found a healthy meal at California Pizza Kitchen…grilled chicken with roasted vegetables, it was really good.  Annabelle enjoyed the crayons they gave her. LOL.
