Fun Things Friday!

TGIF! Even though this was a short work week for me, it felt like Friday would never come!

1. I ran 5.67 miles with great friends during lunch today. Afterwards, I hopped on the treadmill and made it an even 7 for the day. I left the gym with a big smile on my face. Running = instant happiness.

2. I get to spend 2 whole days with my favorite tiny human this weekend. She does something new everyday and she is so much fun. PS She loves Bobby Flay. We thought she has been saying baby lately, but it’s really Bobby. 🙂

3. It’s finally Tom’s weather. I got new ones (bright yellow) and I can’t wait to wear them.

4. Fresh fruit! I have a love/hate relationship with pineapple, but I am loving it right now.

5. I’m eating this in hopes of making it to Boston next year. 🙂

6. I’m running a race tomorrow morning! It’s a 10k (Sole of the City 10k) and I’m super excited to see what I can do. Has all that speed work paid off?

Tell me something fun about your Friday!

Mile repeats and back to eating veggies.

I try to eat pretty healthy and workout while on vacation, but I def eat differently than when I’m doing my normal routine. Since we were away this weekend and I ate lots of good food (and not so many veggies), I tried to get back on track yesterday.

Fruit and a soft Belvita Bar

A big salad with spinach, carrots, cucumbers, green peppers, tomatoes, corn, peas, and grilled chicken.

Yogurt with cinnamon granola

Scrambled eggs with shredded chicken and mozzarella cheese with a side of veggies.

Don’t be fooled…I still ate ice cream for dessert. 🙂
Yesterday was track day and I’ve learned to love and hate it at the same time. The workout was:

3 x 1600m in 6:51 with 400m rest interval

We did:

1600m in 6:47
1600m in 6:47
1600m in 6:39

I really love the feeling of being so tired at the end of each set but feeling recovered and refreshed at the beginning of the next set. 🙂

My friend Jeanette shared a great quote with me during our workout and I repeated it a few times during our last mile: “Comfort is a great place to be, but nothing grows there.” 🙂

I hope you are having a great Thursday!

What’s your favorite quote? When do you need it most?

Things to do on a rainy weekend in Ocean City.

Chris and I spent two nights in Ocean City this past weekend and even though the weather wasn’t great, we had a great time! I have to once again thank my parents for their help…I don’t know what we would do without them.

I’m going to warn you now, this post is very picture happy. 🙂

We arrived in the late afternoon and checked into our hotel, The Dunes Manor.

The view from our balcony. 🙂

The sunset later that evening…I love this picture.

I googled some dinner options because a lot of restaurants and hotels are closed during the off season. We decided on the Coral Reef Cafe in the Day’s Inn on 17th Street and it turned out to be a great pick. We were a little concerned at first, but our bartender (Patrick) was super nice and the food was really good. I ordered the Coral Reef Turkey Sandwich (focaccia, turkey, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and red pepper aioli) with a side of sweet potato fries. These fries were AMAZING.

After dinner, we headed back to the hotel to relax and watch TV. Yes, this is a fun night for us since sitting and watching adult TV is a luxury now. 🙂 We watched some Full House while eating m&ms and fell asleep by 11 ish.

I started Monday in the best possible ways!

A. A selfie with the ocean

B. A 9 mile run on the boardwalk…in the rain.

C. Breakfast at Dumser’s

The rest of Monday was spent watching the Oriole’s game at The Greene Turtle…

Tea time at our hotel (they have it everyday from 3-4 and it was amazing)…. Me and crumpets and chocolate chip cookies.

Dinner at a restaurant called Hooked… All of the food is acquired locally and everything was fresh and delicious (the lighting was low and my pics didn’t turn out without a flash).

Dessert at Dumser’s… Chris ordered a chocolate milkshake and I got an Oreo super sundae. They make their own ice cream and I could eat the Oreo crush everyday of my life.

I “slept in” until about 7:45 and then headed to the hotel “exercise room”. The room was small and only contained a bike, an elliptical, and a stair stepper, but it was nice to have and it did the job. I rode the bike for 15 minutes and then did the following exercise circuit.

– 15 jump squats with alternating knee raises
– 15 push-ups
– 15 back kicks on each leg
– 10 side tricep push-ups on each side
– 15 tricep dips
– 50 sit ups
– 10 plank push ups on each side

I completed the circuit 3 times and I was a sweaty mess at the end.

After I took a quick shower, we packed and headed down to the Victorian Room for breakfast.

This was our view…the ocean is behind that wall of fog. 😦

French toast and sliced strawberries.

It was sooo nice to have a few days to relax and unwind, but we were so happy to get back to you know who. 🙂 We will see you again soon Ocean City!

If you didn’t stop reading after the 15th picture, where would you go for a weekend getaway if money wasn’t an option?

Marathon Training Monday IV: #MTM

Happy Monday! It’s an especially happy Monday for me because I’m off work today and tomorrow. 🙂

Here is a recap of last week’s training!

Monday:. 6.3 tempo miles. The plan called for a 7:38 pace but we were over achievers. 🙂

Tuesday: Strength training = body pump class.

Wednesday: Track workout!

1000m in 4:05
2000m in 8:20
1000m in 4:07
1000m in 4:07
1 mile cool down on the treadmill

Thursday: Retirement fun run! 4.46 miles outside and 2.54 miles on the treadmill = 7 easy miles for the day.

Friday: Strength training workout with Jeanette. We did a series of 8 exercises varying from leg work, arm work, and AB exercises. We went through the series of exercises 3 times and my shoulders were feeling it on Saturday morning.

Saturday: 20 miles in the books. We kept a pretty good pace throughout the run and even picked it up for the last 3 miles. It was so great to get in a “good feeling” long run since race day is about a month away!

I hope you had a great week of training, cross fitting, body pumping, walking, doing what like to be doing, etc!

Fun Things Friday!

1. My coworker and good friend bought me coffee this morning. #winning

2. I had Cheerios with sliced strawberries for breakfast and it was nice to have something different. On a side note, I’m hungry now.

3. I’m joining lots of running friends to celebrate Serge’s retirement this afternoon. I may even have some mommy juice…aka wine.

4. Chris and I are going to the beach from Sunday morning to Tuesday morning. 🙂 My parents are watching AB and Molly…they are the best. 🙂

5. I’m going to shower a friend with love at her wedding shower tomorrow. She’s the gorgeous gal in the pink shirt. 🙂

Happy Friday!

Share something fun with me!

A farewell run and the best afternoon snack.

This morning’s breakfast was hot oatmeal with strawberries. I haven’t had hot oatmeal in forever and it hit the spot.

For some reason, oatmeal does not hold me over as much as other things I eat for breakfast…strange, I know.

One of my very close running buddies is retiring and today was his last day. A few of us went on a leisurely 4.5 mile run to say goodbye and get one last run in. We will still see him often, but we will miss him during our lunch runs.

Me, Serge, and Jeanette 🙂

I hopped on a treadmill afterwards and finished with 7 easy miles for the day.
My lunch was a big salad that included mixed greens, spinach, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, chicken meatballs, baked croutons, and guacamole. I’ll be eating the exact same thing for lunch tomorrow and I’m totally ok with that.

I worked through the afternoon and was more than ready for a snack around 4:30. Man, was this a good one. Cookies + yogurt = genius. If you need an otherwise healthy snack made into a dessert, I’m your girl. 🙂

Dinner was a turkey and ham sub from Subway and you all know dessert is coming soon!

Do you mostly run alone or with a group of people?

Favorite yogurt topping?

Running around in circles.

I wonder if people think it’s weird that we (runners) choose to brave the elements and run really fast around a circle a bunch of times. We know this as a track workout but some people think this is crazy…and I guess it kind of is. 🙂

Thankfully, the weather was sooo much better than last week and we hit all of our times today.

Today’s Workout

10-20 minute warmup
1000m in 4:09 (we did 4:05)
2000m in 8:38 (we did 8:20)
1000m in 4:09 (we did 4:07)
1000m in 4:09 (we did 4:07)
10-20 minute cool down

With the run to and from the track and one cool down mile on the treadmill, I finished with about 5 miles for the day.
My lunch was chicken salad with grapes on a pretzel roll and side of fruit. If you haven’t tried a pretzel roll, you are really missing out. Please find one ASAP.

I’ve actually been super busy at work lately (crazy, I know), so snack time came before I knew it. My snack time is usually between 4 and 4:30 and it is almost always Greek yogurt with something yummy mixed in. I am in LOVE with Dannon Oikos yogurt and I usually buy strawberry and banana cream. Today’s selection was banana cream with a Hershey kiss mixed in. PS I found the Hershey kiss in my desk drawer and I cannot say how long it may have lived there. 🙂

Dinner was super healthy and delicious but I didn’t get a picture because Annabelle was using my phone to watch Sesame Street on YouTube. She is OBSESSED with Jason Miraz singing “Outdoors”…a song about playing outdoors sung to the tune of his “I’m yours” song.

I think it’s pretty clear what happens after dinner every night. Tonight’s selection was…

Annabelle loves to play with the remote, so it’s best to not get too attached to what’s on TV. We tried the whole take the batteries out of an old remote trick and she wants nothing to do with it unless it actually works. We have a baby genius on our hands.

It’s way past my bedtime, so I’ll see you guys tomorrow!

What was your workout today?

Do you watch much TV?

What time do you usually go to bed?

Tempo too fast and the best salad dressing.

Happy Tuesday! The weather is finally changing and the sun is shining! I hope you are having nice weather too. 🙂

We had pretty nice weather yesterday as well, so we did our tempo run outside during lunch. Yes, it’s awesome that I can run on my lunch break. 🙂

The plan called for a 1 mile warmup followed by 5 miles @ a 7:38 pace. We pretty much just picked up the pace and ran on feel and ended up running faster than we needed to.

I was so ready for lunch when I got back to my desk. I enjoyed every last bite of this big salad and the secret ingredient…guacamole as salad dressing. I simply mixed it all together and the guacamole covered everything and it was amazing.

Some random stuff from yesterday:

O’s Opening Day! Yay for baseball season!

Love her stink face
